Comic-Book giant Marvel, which contains many iconic characters, is preparing to add a Japanese hero to its impressive staff. Ultraman, one of the important characters of Japan, will show up in Marvel.
In the Marvel Comics: Next Big Thing panel held at the C2E2 fair, it was announced that a new name is about to join the current heroes of the company. Our hero this time comes from Japan.
Ultraman, a world-renowned character with a huge fan base in Japan, will begin to appear in Marvel comics by 2020. Thus, readers will recognize both Japanese culture and character.
Ultraman Joins Marvel
In Japan, action series based on visual effects are often called Tokusatsu. Ultraman is one of the most popular examples of this genre. The character has a great reputation both in Japan and worldwide.
Ultraman is now preparing to join Marvel. The series Rise of Ultraman will be written by Kyle Higgins (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) and Mat Groom (Self / Made). The series is drawn by Francesco Manna, who is also known for The Avengers series.
In fact, the Ultraman name is not a very foreign name to those who follow the western comic book samples, but there is a small problem at this point. Ultraman, especially known for the new generation, is actually the name of one of the evil Supermans in one of DC’s parallel universes. However, this is not expected to be a problem for Marvel, as the Japanese Ultraman Netflix series continues.
One of the authors of the series, Higgins said, “Since I worked at Power Rangers a few years ago, I had the chance to learn more about Tokusatsu. Tokusatsu – and especially Ultraman – with its wide and diverse inspiration has been a great source of entertainment for me. ” Higgins added that it was a great honor and privilege to bring Ultraman to Marvel.
Marvel has been working to enter the Japanese market for a long time. For this purpose, the company, which also produces anime Avengers series, wants to be a more familiar brand in Japan with Ultraman. Time will tell if they will be successful.
